Ruth V. Russell Humanitarian Scholarship

The Ruth V. Russell Humanitarian Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student in the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies. Recipients must have a 3.0 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale, must be of sophomore or junior standing and must contribute in a significant way via leadership and/or volunteer service to improving individual lives, community vitality and/or professional relevancy at campus, community, regional, state, national, or international settings for one full year.

This scholarship was created by friends and colleagues of Ruth V. Russell in recognition of her outstanding career and achievements in the field of recreation. Now professor emerita, Dr. Russell received a Bachelor of Science from West Virginia University in 1970, a Master of Science from Pennsylvania State University in 1973, and a Doctorate of Recreation from Indiana University in 1984. She served Indiana University as a professor in the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies from 1981 to 2010 and as associate dean for the Office of the Vice Chancellor from 1997 to 2000.
