Curtis R. Simic Scholarship

The Curt R. Simic Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student with junior standing who will be entering his or her senior year at IU and who is majoring in Physical Education/Teacher Education (PETE). Preference is given to students with an improving record who are working at the highest level of their ability.

Curt Simic is a graduate of the School of Public Health who intended to spend his career as a physical education teacher and coach. However, a job at the IU Foundation, while he was still a student, led him to a different vocation. Since his student days, Mr. Simic has held a variety of positions in development and alumni relations at University of Tennessee, Yale University, University of Alabama, University of Oregon, and the University of California at Berkeley. In 1988, Mr. Simic returned to Indiana University as the president of the IU Foundation where he was responsible for all fundraising for Indiana University. Under his leadership, the private support for Indiana University is now among the top public and private colleges and universities in the nation. Mr. Simic retired in June 2008 but continues as a consultant for many higher education organizations.
