Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health

The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at Indiana University School of Public Health‐Bloomington (SPH‐B) invites applications to join the faculty of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. This is an open-rank search, and applicants at all levels (assistant, associate, or full professor) are welcome. Individuals are sought who will contribute toward academic excellence in research and teaching in support of our mission to create knowledge and train the next generation to protect human health by improving the quality of environments where people live, work, and play. Multiple positions are available.

Located on the flagship campus of the Indiana University system, SPH-B has over 200 faculty in five departments. Indiana University is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) and boasts numerous resources available to SPH-B faculty, including support for grant-writing and teaching, biostatistical consulting, and laboratory facilities. This 10‐month appointment would ideally start on August 1, 2021, although an earlier or later hire date is possible. Applications received by December 20, 2020, will receive full consideration, although applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Responsibilities: The applicant will contribute to the department’s vision for research, teaching, and service. Areas of special interest include analytical chemistry related to environmental health, environmental health microbiology, environmental health field research, environmental effects on the human microbiome, and environmental and occupational health disparities. However, qualified applicants with demonstrated outstanding potential for research and teaching in any topic related to environmental and occupational health will be considered. It is expected that the applicant will be able to build a program of extramurally funded research while contributing to teaching of undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate also is expected to build effective collaborations with other faculty in the department, school, and university.

Resources: The department has ten tenured and tenure-track faculty members, along with four non-tenure earning faculty and staff members. It offers a bachelor’s degree (BSPH) in Environmental and Occupational Health, Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Science degrees, and a doctoral degree in Environmental and Occupational Health. The Department received more than $5 million in new external awards in 2020.

The Indiana University Department of Environmental and Occupational Health unites a multidisciplinary faculty with expertise in environmental sciences and engineering, toxicology, environmental epidemiology, industrial hygiene, occupational health, anthropology, medicine, and environmental policy, all pursuing the common goal of preventing disease by ensuring healthy environments.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in environmental health, environmental engineering, environmental epidemiology, or a closely related field, ideally from an accredited school of public health or related educational institution. Candidates for associate and full professor positions must also demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement appropriate for a senior career level, including extramurally funded research as a corresponding principal investigator, current funding or strong potential to secure external funding, and a positive team spirit.
