You will complete a core of courses in areas including law, marketing, communication, management, psychology, and finance, as well as broad slate of classes in the Kelley School of Business.
Then, you'll have the chance to apply what you learn directly to the field through a required practicum or internship—many students complete several at IU or with professional organizations in nearby Indianapolis, which is home to the Colts (NFL) in Lucas Oil Stadium, the Pacers (NBA) and Fever (WNBA) at Conseco Fieldhouse, motorsports at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, swimming and diving at the Natatorium, the Indianapolis Indians (MiLB) at Victory Field, the NCAA Headquarters, as well as several national governing bodies. You may also choose to get active in the student-led Indiana University Sport Marketing Alliance, which regularly invites guest speakers from the industry and takes valuable networking trips.
With this major, you will be well positioned for a career in professional, intercollegiate, or amateur sports in areas such as facility operations, marketing and public relations, or event marketing and management. You may even consider continuing your education in a law or sport administration graduate program. Wherever your strengths and interests lie, you will be able to find support from the Office of Career Services as you begin to consider your own professional plan.
