Fall Break and Homecoming have come and gone, which means we are all "in the thick" of a busy and demanding semester. The advisors in the School of Public Health-Bloomington Office of Advising are no exception; in fact, their dedication is integral to the exceptional accomplishments and outcomes we see in our students and graduates.
We welcome and are grateful for our newest academic advisors:
Aaqil Abdullah
joined SPH-B in August after serving as an administrative assistant in the Office of the Dean in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies. In that role, he collaborated with the assistant dean for undergraduate affairs and supervised the undergraduate reception team.
Rachel Downey
began her role as an SPH-B academic advisor in May. Her experience includes graduate assistant roles in two IU academic advising units: University Division (now Advising & Major Exploration Services) and the Center for Students in Transition. Rachel has supported students at multiple institutions as both an admissions counselor and records assistant.
Taylor Erickson
also joined SPH-B in May. She has been a science educator in both the Bloomington, Indiana and Phoenix, Arizona areas, teaching and mentoring students from middle grades through college. She earned her M.S. from SPH-B in 2020. Taylor combines her classroom experience with her interest in public health to support and guide students in their academic endeavors.
Megan Greene
joined SPH-B in May after serving as a student advisor in the College Internship Program. There, she also held the title of academic coordinator—helping young adults with autism and other learning differences gain independence.
Dr. Jennifer Lopatin began her role as an SPH-B academic advisor in August. At IU Bloomington, Jennifer has taught courses in the Department of English, served as a tutor for Writing Tutorial Services, and worked as an academic advisor for University Division (now Advising & Major Exploration Services).
Taís Xavier Carvalho

She has also taught courses in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and for the Collins Living-Learning Center. Taís' academic interests include pedagogical approaches and investigating Brazilian, Argentinian, and Angolan children's literature.
