Dear SPH-B Community,
As you might know, the new presidential administration has issued an order freezing all external communication from federal agencies, including NIH, through February 1. This article in Science
details the immediate implications of the ban, which includes the postponement of meetings such as study sections. If you had a proposal scheduled for review or were anticipating funding discussions with an institute’s advisory council, expect delays and/or disruption; for example, the January 28–29 NIA advisory council meeting will not occur. It is also possible that program officers might be unavailable via phone or email for a time.
Despite any worry this may cause, we encourage you to continue to focus on your very important research and related work. Remember that we navigated funding uncertainties successfully under previous administration shifts and—most recently—during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are pleased to inform you that University Relations staff are closely monitoring potential impacts at both the state and federal levels—moreover, they are actively communicating with constituents at every level of government to help clarify any immediate or long-term effects. While their efforts might not provide quick answers to every question, please know that dedicated staff are staying informed and engaging in pointed advocacy on the university’s behalf.
