One of the strengths of the SPH-B community is peer support and mentorship among our faculty as well as our students.
Holding up this high standard is faculty member Temitope Erinosho, who was selected for the 2025 Outstanding Reviewer Award from The Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (JAND). An associate professor in the Department of Applied Health Science, Erinosho’s research specialties lie in early childcare settings, reducing health disparities, obesity, and underserved populations. She has been a peer reviewer for JAND since 2013 and joined the editorial board in 2016.
“Receiving this award was humbling but also significant,” shares Erinosho. “Peer review, while a critical aspect of my professional responsibilities, is often done quietly, behind the scenes…receiving this award affirmed that the time I spend carefully reviewing others’ work, trying to be fair, constructive, and respectful, has value beyond the immediate process.”
For Erinosho, thorough peer reviews with thoughtful feedback are essential to enable authors to strengthen their work and research, often in unexpected ways. Being fair and offering clear, constructive feedback to the author in a respectful manner are aspects of the peer review process that are the most important, according to Erinosho.

“Dr. Erinosho is a top-class scientist whose work ethic and research prowess deserve recognition,” shares Richard Holden, Assistant Dean for Faculty Success and Erinosho’s mentor. “She is continually learning, improving herself, and helping others do the same. What’s more, from her work on high-need communities it is obvious that her heart is in the right place.”
Erinosho speaks highly of Holden’s mentorship and support over the past year, stating that “he is a cheerleader for me. He is there to listen, give suggestion, and not only check in on how things are going for me professionally but also how I am doing personally.”
This recognition is a shared accomplishment in Erinosho’s mind, not only with Holden but the several mentors that have supported her during the course of her career journey.
“This award supports my current professional goals by reinforcing my commitment to contributing to the dissemination of scientific knowledge,” says Erinosho. “[It] encourages me to continue engaging thoughtfully in the peer review process and to model responsible, fair, and constructive peer review practices for others within my field.”
Holden adds, “I derive great joy and fulfillment collaborating with Dr. Erinosho and join in this latest celebration of her accomplishments.”
