BLOOMINGTON, Ind. —The Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield are partnering to expand access to preventive health services in rural Indiana through two mobile health initiatives serving communities with limited access to care. The partnership was created and led by Dr. Antonio S. Williams, Beinner Family Endowed Professor and principal investigator for the master agreement supporting these initiatives.
Anthem’s support will help sustain and grow Hoosier Health Check, a mobile screening initiative led by Dr. Priscilla Barnes through the School’s Center on Community-Engaged Dissemination and Implementation Research (CCEDIR) that brings preventive health services to trusted community locations across Indiana, including recurring events in Greene, Scott, and Brown counties. The collaboration also supports mobile diabetes screening units, led by Dr. Ines Gonzalez-Casanova and Dr. Karla Galaviz, which provide early diabetes detection and health education for rural Hoosier Hispanic communities. The first units launched in Daviess and Dubois counties in May 2025.
Together, these initiatives increase access to preventive care, promote early disease detection, and connect underserved Hoosiers with critical health resources. Anthem’s investment will help expand their reach and strengthen community-based approaches to improving health across Indiana.
