Scholarly Interest
My lab develops and measures the efficacy of physical activity interventions on neurocognitive and physical health outcomes in children, adolescents, and adults with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The goal of this work is to improve the implementation of evidence-based physical activity programs in community settings to enhance inclusion, long-term health outcomes, and the quality of life of individuals with IDD. My work as the Director of Research and Program Evaluation of the Indiana Complex Care Coordination Collaborative (IC4) is to measure the impact of a training program in which nurse care coordinators are embedded within primary care clinics to improve medical care coordination and reduce patient/caregiver workload for adults with IDD. The goal of this Medicare-funded program is demonstrate its scalability and impact on health trajectories and quality of life for adults with IDD and their caregivers.
My work as the Director for All IN for Health (Indiana CTSI) is to increase participation and representation of traditionally under-represented communities in research, including those with disabilities. To this end, I am partnering with researchers to broaden the participation of community members across the full research lifecycle (development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination).
