The John R. Endwright Alumni Service Award is presented annually to a graduate of the School of Public Health-Bloomington or its prior incarnation as Health, Physical Education, and Recreation whose outstanding service and contributions to Indiana University, the school, and academia or the field of public health strengthen the ties between school and alumni and reflect the school’s mission to advance knowledge. The award is named in honor of John Endwright, who served on the faculty of the school from 1948 to 1983 and as dean from 1966 to 1975. The award is a reflection of his commitment to building and maintaining strong ties between the school and its graduates. As an assistant to Dean Willard W. Patty earlier in his career, Endwright suggested that a school’s foundation is only as strong as the relationships established with its alumni.
