This past summer, several of our School of Public Health-Bloomington faculty members helped develop course topics and curriculum in preparation for Indiana University Bloomington introducing its First-Year Seminar (FYS) undergraduate compulsory eight-week course module for the 2025-26 academic year.

SPH-B students participate in vital environmental impact study of DigIndy Tunnel system
Since January of this year, Capone and his students have been collecting data on how the DigIndy project in Indianapolis —a 28-mile-long network of tunnels being built 250 feet beneath the city to divert at least 95 percent of combined sewer overflows (CSOs)—is currently making an impact on the environment. In late July, Capone and his team were awarded an R21 grant from the National Institutes of Health in the amount of $435,875 to continue the project for the next two years and finance the microbiological analysis of the collected samples.

Faculty member named Provost Professor

Director of the Indiana University Citizen Opioid Responders (COR) training program Cris Henderson was selected for the annual 2025 College-Based Leadership Award from the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (AOTD) Section of the American Public Health Association for their work on empowering the general public to save lives in Indiana.

Thanks to a $4,000 grant from the IU Futures Program in the College of Arts and Sciences, a team of SPH-B faculty members, students, and staff traveled to the federally recognized Hualapai Tribe in Peach Springs, Arizona at the end of July to conduct research on health equity issues amongst tribal jails on the reservation.
