The annual lecture series is presented by the McMaster University Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact.
Bloomington, Ind.—McMaster University recently announced a series of lectures by Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington (IUSPH-B) Dean David Allison, whom they have named the Hooker Distinguished Visiting Professor for 2022. Established in honor of Dr. Harry Lyman Hooker, the lecture series features accomplished scholars who have made notable contributions to their respective fields of study and whose expertise have elevated the quality of academia.
In a series of presentations over several days in March, Dean Allison will address topics including research rigor, obesity, nutrition, and longevity. One of his lectures will include student-focused remarks with an opportunity for discussion.
"Like Dr. Harry Lyman Hooker, I value scholarship, science and education," Dean Allison says. "I will be forever grateful for the honor of being selected as the 2022 Hooker Distinguished Visiting Professor and for the privilege of exchanging ideas with my good spirited colleagues and the students of McMaster University."
Dr. Hooker, an internal medicine practitioner who grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, bequeathed McMaster University $25 million upon his death in 1979. In addition to the Hooker Distinguished Visiting Professor Lecture Series, these funds also expanded student financial aid opportunities and helped create the McMaster University Arts & Science program.
Dean Allison's first lecture in the series, "Exploring the need and opportunities for greater rigor in science: Nutrition and obesity research as the exemplar" is scheduled for March 8 at noon EST. Registration is available at bit.ly/3ANNWcp.
