Amazing news from the IU School of Public Health-Bloomington (SPH-B) Master of Science in Athletic Training (M.S.A.T.) program: Every student in the 2023 M.S.A.T. cohort recently passed their Board of Certification (BOC) exam—required for earning the Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC) credential.
According to Athletic Program Director and Clinical Associate Professor Bradley Sage, the 2022–23 BOC analytic report shows the first-time passing rate is 74.1 percent. Moreover, the IU M.S.A.T. cohort boasts 13 students, while the national cohort size for equivalent M.S.A.T. programs is 8.6 students, according to the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
"Since the inception of the M.S.A.T. program in 2019, we boast an overall 96 percent first-time pass rate," Dr. Sage says. "I’d like to acknowledge Drs. Madsen and Kingma along with our on- and off-campus partners for their part in this success."
Dr. Sage adds that 100 percent of SPH-B's M.S.A.T. graduates have passed the BOC exam and were hired as athletic trainers within six months of graduation.
The M.S.A.T. program is a CAATE-accredited two-year professional degree program that prepares students for careers as athletic trainers. Learn more at go.iu.edu/4PUQ.
