The Hire Big 10+ Career Consortium has recognized Kristine Nielsen, assistant director of the IU School of Public Health-Bloomington (SPH-B) Office of Career Services, for her dedication to student success over the last 25-plus years. At the consortium’s recent Allerton Conference in Bloomington, Indiana, Nielsen was one of only three career services professionals across all Hire Big 10+ institutions to be honored as they approach retirement.
"I am honored to receive this recognition from the Hire Big 10+ Career Consortium," Nielsen says. "Working with students over the past 25 years has been very rewarding, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their growth and success. This award is a testament to the collaborative effort and support of my colleagues and the inspiring students who have made this journey so fulfilling. As I approach retirement, I look forward to seeing the continued impact of our work in shaping the leaders and professionals of tomorrow."
Nielsen is a graduate of the IU Kelley School of Business and has worked with students in a wide range of pre-professional settings, serving as both an instructor of leadership skills courses and advisor to multiple student organizations. She was a 2016–17 member of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) Advisory Board and actively supported the Sigma Alpha Pi chapter of NSLS from 2009 to 2021.
“We congratulate Kris on receiving this honor,” says Susan Simmons, Ph.D., director of the SPH-B Office of Career Services, “and thank her for her many years of service to Indiana University and the IU School of Public Health-Bloomington."
According to their website, the Hire Big 10+ Career Consortium is an alliance of exemplary "career services professionals from the Big Ten schools, as well as DePaul University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Notre Dame. This group is dedicated to expanding the professional practices of career services as it relates to career counseling/advising, employer relations, and programming."
