Dr. Roy's research focuses on the intersection of health services research and gerontology. Her academic background in statistical methods and economics allows her to apply a wide range of analytical and econometric methods to answer policy-relevant questions that are clinically applicable to healthcare in the aging population.
Dr. Roy presently serves as a co-investigator for an AHRQ R01 grant, which aims to investigate the impact of Medicare Advantage (MA) plans on the utilization and results of post-acute care. This research holds significance due to the fact that nearly half of all Medicare beneficiaries are currently enrolled in MA plans. Furthermore, nearly half of these beneficiaries utilize post-acute care subsequent to their hospitalization. Unfortunately, while post-acute care is a substantial contributor to high healthcare expenses, it frequently leads to unfavorable outcomes. The outcomes of this study will furnish valuable insights into modifying practices within MA and Medicare fee-for-service, ultimately contributing to the establishment of optimal post-acute care protocols.
