The School of Public Health has four Career Communities—groups of students with career interests in specific fields. See more about each of our Career Communities and how majors offered by our school fit within them.

Do you want to provide education, develop policy, or administer programs that promote healthy communities? Perhaps you are interested in health and safety in the workplace, or maybe you want to focus on working with youth and families. Preparation in this career community can lead to employment with government agencies, non-profit organizations, or for-profit corporations.

Common majors:

Do you want to help find the answers to critical public health questions? Perhaps you want to conduct research, reduce disease, develop treatment options, or understand health behaviors. Or maybe you want to research how the environment impacts human health.

The Health & Life Sciences Career Community will help you learn more about career options in settings like public health laboratories, universities, research centers, and pharmaceutical and life sciences companies. While many of these career paths require advanced degrees, this community can set you on the road to professional success.

Common majors:

Do you have an interest in clinical fields such as medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, or athletic training for rehabilitation from disease or injury? Are you interested in helping clients with exercise programs, nutritional guidance, or behavior change to enhance wellness and prevention? Career paths are available in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, school systems, public and private fitness centers, and wellness divisions within corporations.

Most career paths associated with this career community require specific certifications, credentials, or graduate school programs to practice in these occupations.

Common majors:

Are you interested in a career related to sports, event planning, tourism, or recreation? When you focus on the business, design, and management of these life-enhancing programs, you can directly improve people's health, happiness, and well-being.

Professional paths in this career community are diverse. Upon graduation, you may seek employment with collegiate and professional sports organizations, the business world, the hospitality and tourism industry, parks and recreation settings, or community organizations.
