In recognition of his contributions at Indiana University as a scholar, administrator, and colleague, Jaroslaw Harezlak, Ph.D. was recently named a Provost Professor. Awarded to a select few faculty since 1995, this title is "intended to bring significant honor to faculty who have achieved local, national, and international distinction in both teaching and research/creative activity."
Harezlak, who was also recently appointed as chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, is only the fifth SPH-B faculty member in the last 30 years to receive this title. (Previous recipients include Debby Herbenick, Ph.D. and William Yarber, H.S.D.) He earned a Ph.D. in biostatistics from Harvard University and has served SPH-B in various capacities over the years including a role as assistant dean of research analytics.
His research interests include statistical regularization methods, traumatic brain injury, and structured high-dimensional data. An accomplished researcher, Harezlak has written or contributed to hundreds of peer-reviewed articles and was recently awarded a $1.4 million R01 grant for his project, "Influence of the College Football Athletes' Cumulative Head Impact Exposure (HIE) on the mTBI [mild traumatic brain injury] incidence and post-mTBI health outcomes."
President Pamela Whitten
"Your roles...and membership on multiple committees demonstrate the active role you have taken in leading your school," IU President Pamela Whitten said to Harezlak in a congratulatory letter, adding, "Our students are fortunate to have you preparing them for their careers."
