As part of its annual rankings of "Best Public Health Grad Schools" nationwide, U.S. News & World Report announces that the School of Public Health-Bloomington (SPH-B) has advanced five spots and is now #38 (of 213 schools). SPH-B’s ranking is particularly significant for a school that is less than 12 years old and has been eligible for the ranking for only half that time. The rankings are based on assessment surveys completed by deans, administrators, and faculty at accredited degree programs or schools in public health.
"My forebears in SPH-B ignited a bold and challenging new endeavor in 2012," says SPH-B Dean David Allison. Our school, which was inaugurated in 1946 and eventually became the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER), placed itself in a chrysalis and emerged an infant School of Public Health. The faculty, students, staff, alumni, emeriti, and partners have since pulled together to grow a modern, 21st century, boldly creative, science-based school of public health. This year's ranking speaks to the successes we've enjoyed over the last year—I know my colleagues are deservedly proud. We look forward to climbing the mountains ahead and making an ever-greater positive difference for our students, for science, and for the health of humanity."
